Chaldeans of Sarcelles,
story of a community
Sarcelles is the European capital of a little-known community in France: the Assyro-Chaldeans. These Eastern Christians are nevertheless today nearly 12,000 in the Val d'Oise.
The first to arrive in France, in the early 1970s, came mainly from the region of Tur Abdin, in the south-east of Turkey. They were second-class citizens, fleeing the civil war between the Kurds and the Turks. Today, they welcome their co-religionists refugees from Iraq and Syria.
Chaldeans of Sarcelles, the story of a community is a plunge into the daily life of these families who had to flee the land of their ancestors to make France their new homeland. A film about exile, memory and integration, irrigated by the beauty of the Aramaic language.
