Duchamp, the Baroness and the Mystery of the Urinal

In 1917, a urinal was sent anonymously to the New York Society of Independent Artists, provoking a scandal. A few decades later, it became the most emblematic art object of the 20th century.

Attributed to Marcel Duchamp, the authorship of the “Fontaine” readymade remains controversial.

From Paris to New York, via Berlin, the documentary investigates the mystery surrounding the famous urinal, and follows in the footsteps of Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven, a whimsical and unclassifiable German artist and forgotten figure of the Dada movement.
