In November 2018, the news flashes around the globe: a 27-year-old American man has died in mysterious circumstances on a tiny island in the Indian Ocean.

The world discovers the existence of the Sentinels, the most isolated tribe on Earth. No one knows their language or much of their history. Their densely wooded island— roughly the size of Manhattan—remains an enigma. While their cousins on nearby islands have suffered slavery, disease and death, the Sentinels have never given up their liberty. Somehow, the Sentinels have survived the onslaught of modernity.

John Chau thought he could convert them. He had been secretly preparing for his mission since he was 17 years old.

 His mother thinks he is still alive.
