LOOKING FOR ISTANBUL

In this documentary, Eric Cantona takes us to Istanbul, home to the two most successful football clubs in Turkey: Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. Here, he plunges into the history of two great rivals, their sport, their city and country.

Based, from the start, in Istanbul — the cultural and economic capital of Turkey — these two teams have been clashing on the playing field for more than 100 years. On one side, there is the Ottoman, aristocratic Galatasaray, founded in 1905 by students of the Galatasaray French Lycée. And on the other, the Kemalist and the Republican Fenerbahçe, founded in 1907 on the eastern shore of the Bosphorus. Rising from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire, the clubs reflect competing versions of Istanbul’s identity.
