THEY CALLED US “BEURETTES”

They Called Us “Beurettes” (the French argot “Beur” means “Arab”) is the portrait of a first generation of women of North African origin, born in France.

Through the testimonies of Mina, Aourdia and Dalila, the film traces the invisible history of these women, who, despite being raised in French schools, had to fight to find their place: both as citizens in a France still marked by the Algerian war and as women, within their families and French society.
